Moving To A Sunny State? Information About Installing Solar Panels To Save Money

If you are moving to a sunny state, now is a good time to consider your energy needs. Because the state is sunny, you will likely be using your HVAC unit much more as it gets hot during the summer. This can result in high energy bills. One way to bring those bills down is to install solar panels on your roof. Below is information about what solar panels are and how they are installed.

Solar Panels

The type of solar panels that are used on residential properties is known as photovoltaics (PV). Each solar panel has many cells. When it is sunny outside, these cells absorb the sun's rays. An electrical field is then created, and then electricity will start flowing.

The cells on the solar panel are very thin, and because of this, these cells need to be protected from the weather elements. In order to do this, companies sandwich these cells between a layer of plastic on one side and a layer of glass on the other. The glass side is what faces the sun.

Another part of a PV system is a device that converts direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). This is because direct current will not provide you with enough electrical power. Instead, alternating current is needed to provide the amount of power your home needs.

Solar Panels Installation

The first part of the installation is to ensure your roof is strong enough to handle the weight of the solar panels. Next, an engineer will inspect the electrical panel in your home to see if it needs to be upgraded. This is because the solar panels require a lot of amps. If your electrical panel does not have enough amps, the engineer will hire an electrician to upgrade the electrical panel and install circuit breakers that have the right amount of amps.

The installer will then make sure there is no damage to the roof, such as loose or missing shingles. If there is, a roofing contractor will need to repair the roof. If you have an old roof, this would be the perfect time to replace it with a new one.

Once the roof is ready, the installer will install the electrical wiring that is needed to connect the solar panels to a power system. Racking is then installed to provide support for the solar panels. The panels are then attached to the racking, and the installer connects the inverters to the solar panels. The inverters are what converts DC to AC power.
